Probin"saya" by Kublai.
Probinsaya (probinsya=province + saya=happiness) manifest on canvas the light of Kublai's rediscovery of happy, simple, rustic living when he does sculptural work in Mindanao provinces. Measuring a uniform 22inch x 22inch(signed print on canvas). The Probinsaya series remind us, with child's verve, the celebration of life in Mindanao countryside. Who among us captures in mind's eye the joyful mood of children playing the indigenous game syatong, or the cheerful flow and sway of nature's diverse aspects in a sunny, windy day? kublai does, his fervor unbreakable "I choose to be and,I realize, happiness can be never-ending."
The images of Probinsaya seemingly consist of jigsaw-puzzle pieces cohering together as distinct representations that, when unified in the viewer's mind, express graceful dynamism vivified by Kublai's colors. By analyzing their combination, connectedness becoming apparent, the viewer becomes aware of an integral whole greater than the sum total of its smaller parts. An overwhelming realization of meaning, then descends on one's consciousness, turning the viewer into witness, sensibly partaking of the essence of all celebration: HAPPINESS.
the stimulus taht set off Probinsaya is free as air: a man's peaceful disposition that Kublai distinguished as the artist saw the countryfolk feeding grains to backyard chickens. he sees the same harmony with the natural environment in a farmer he met on the road, along with family and a lumbering, chewing carabao, unhurriedly going home, contented with accomplished work in the field. "The nature-based lifestyle with which our forefathers lived righteously!"
The perfection he sees in these visions and the discovery of many more hit him with a progression of satori-the Zen experience of a rush of self-realization characterized by exhilaration, streaming through his being as irrepressible inspiration: "If through my art i am able to impart positive outlook and modicum of happiness to people, that would be satisfying to me."
Kublai Ponce-Millan was born july 8, 1974 in Cotabato City and holds a degree of Fine Arts from UP-Diliman.
