Cagner features a wealth of great fishing information for both the fishing enthusiast and one who studies fish. With it including 2,500 of both black and white and color illustrations, and information on fish habitats and fishing methods, The Lore of Sportfishing makes a great resource. The book has two chapters that go into detail about where different fish live and environments of where the fish live, and fish anatomy. Different waters are talked about, and the currents of the ocean. Knowing how the different currents flow can give a fisherman a heads-up on where to to look for fish in saltwater. With freshwater bodies of water, such as lakes and rivers, fish can adapt to different flows of water, and depths. If you are interested in knowing more about fish anatomy, the author goes into detail about the fins and the body shape, the internal organs, and the bone structure. A fish senses are explained, such as seeing, its hearing, smell, and taste. And instead of listing the fish by alphabetical order, they are laid out by shape or other identifying features. Fishing equipment (rods and reels, tackle and bait, and fishing line) are greatly illustrated showing the differences between the many types that are used by fishermen. Casting techniques are also highlighted. For those interested in fly fishing, an entire chapter is dedicated to the sport, with fly tying, and materials for them. Boat types and navigational equipment for motorized boats are illustrated, and although the book was printed in 1976, many of the information is still relevant and useful. Probably my favorite part of this book is all the information on taxidermy and fish art, both important methods of preserving a catch. The basic tools for fish taxidermy are listed, and the book lists step by step how to make body forms, plasters, how to skin a fish, methods of casting, as well as mounting the fish for preservation. Gyotaku, the Japanese fish art form, is gone into detail as well. In all, although some items are dated, this is an excellent book on fish and fish habitat, and has really great illustrations on many, many different fish. VERY GOOD CONDITION
