7. Provide synergistic and diverse anti-oxidation effects through multiple antioxidant combinations
COMPONENTS OF TRI-ANTIOXIDANT
1. Green Tea Extract
Camellia sinensis is the species of plant whose leaves and leaf buds are used to produce tea. It is of the genus Camellia, a genus of flowering plants in the family Theaceae. White tea, green tea, oolong, pu-erh tea and black tea are all harvested from this species, but are processed differently to attain different levels of oxidation. Kukicha (twig tea) is also harvested from Camellia sinensis, but uses twigs and stems rather than leaves. One of the great advancement in nutrition of the 21st century is the scientific confirmation of the many benefits of green tea extract. It’s most potent benefits are:
1.) Anti-Aging 2.) Anti-Cancer 3.) Weight Control
What accounts for the health benefits of this green tea extract is that over 1,800 scientific studies have found that the active constituents in green tea are very POWERFUL ANTIOXIDANTS that are called POLYPHENOLS (cathecins) and Flavanols. Epigallocathecin gallate (or you may call it EGCG), is the MOST POWERFUL ANTIOXIDANT milligram for milligram. It has 25-100 time the antioxidant power of Vitamin C & E. A cup of its tea has more antioxidant serving of Broccoli, Spinach, Carrot and Strawberry...
It also:
Ø Lowers Cholesterol. It has shown to lower “bad cholesterol” or LDL
Ø Slows Arthritis. It protects your joint against osteoarthritis. This is one of the least known but most effective effects of Green tea. It prevents Inflammation. Where there is less inflammation, there is less wear and tear in your joints;
Ø Prevents the growth of Cancer Cells. They keep the DNA intact and stabilize the cell Membrane. The EGCG in the green tea extract prevent cells from growing by binding to a specific enzyme. This health benefit of green tea is especially important in cancers of the prostate, breast and lungs.
Researchers studied 2 groups of men with pre-cancerous conditions of prostate. One group consumed the equivalent of 12-15 cups a day and the other group did not. A year later, 30% of those who did not consume developed prostate cancer. On the other hand, only 3% of those that consumed developed prostate.
Another of its anti-cancer benefits is for women who have breast cancer. Green Tea provides a natural chemical that binds with Estrogen. Once binded, this hormone is then NOT FREE to stimulate breast cancer cells. Women who consume the greatest amount of green tea before menopause have the least severe form of breast cancer when the disease occurs. Women who drink Green Tea are less likely to have recurrences of breast cancer AFTER TREATMENT. And most important of all, women who consume green tea are 50% less likely to develop breast cancer at all.
Another benefit of Green Tea extract is the protection against LUNG CANCER. Japanese have both the highest rate of smoking and the lowest rate of Lung Cancer in the developed world. Japanese smokers who consume a lot of Green Tea seem to be protected against lung cancer.
Ø Assist weight loss and maintain Weight management.
In a clinical trial, men eating a high-fat diet were given enough green tea to provide the caffeine in a single cup of coffee. Although this amount of caffeine has no significance in weight loss, when the caffeine comes from Green Tea, it is significant.
The green tea supplement boosts the number of calories burned by 4.5% or 135 calories a day. Study shows that taking green tea could help the average man on a high-fat diet lose 18lbs (8 kg) in a year’s time. It could also help women on a high-fat diet; lose 11 lbs (5kg). THIS IS WITHOUT EATING LESS and EXERCISING MORE!
2. SELENIUM
Selenium is a trace mineral that is essential to good health but required only in small amounts. Selenium is incorporated into proteins to make selenoproteins, which are important antioxidant enzymes. The antioxidant properties of selenoproteins help prevent cellular damage from free radicals. Free radicals are natural by-products of oxygen metabolism that may contribute to the development of chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Other selenoproteins help regulate thyroid function and play a role in the immune system
It acts as an antioxidant against free radicals that damage our DNS. It is often included with Vitamins C and E to help fight against cancer, heart disease and even aging. It has also been used to fight viral infections and may even slow the progression of AIDS/HIV. Selenium also contributes to good health by promoting normal liver function.
Other benefits of selenium include the protection against heart disease, the protection against toxic minerals, and the neutralization of alcohol, smoke, and fats. It can help to increase male potency and it also involved in the maintenance of hair, skin and eyes.
Selenium has been receiving huge attention in recent times due to its role in combating cancer. A five year study has been carried out and it has shown that people taking 200mcg a day there were 63% less prostate tumours, 58% less colorectal cancers, 46% less lung malignancies and a 39% overall decrease in cancer deaths. This study was carried out at Cornell University and the University of Arizona. In other studies selenium has also shown promise in helping to prevent other cancers such as cancer of the cervix, rectum, ovaries, bladder, esophagus, pancreas and liver. It is also being tested against leukemia with the hope of promising results.
Additionally, selenium can protect the heart, primarily by reducing the "stickiness" of the blood and decreasing the risk of clotting, in turn, lowering the risk of heart attack, and stroke. Moreover, selenium increases the ratio of HDL ("good") cholesterol to LDL ("bad") cholesterol, which is critical for a healthy heart. Smokers or those who've already had a heart attack or stroke may gain the greatest cardiovascular benefits from selenium supplements, though everyone can profit from taking selenium in a daily vitamin and mineral supplement
3. OPC3 (Grapes Seed Extracts and Pine Bark Extract).
Grape seed extract (GSE) is just what it sounds like – an extract from grape seeds. The seeds are typically from red grapes (instead of white), which have a high content of compounds known as oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs). The OPCs are also present in a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, including pine bark (Pycnogenol) and green tea, where, like grape seed extract, they possess potent antioxidant properties.
The OPCs are chemically known as flavonoids or polyphenols, which can differ substantially based on their polymer arrangement. For example, polyphenols can exist in single (monomers), double (dimers), triple (trimers), and quadruple (tetramers) and even longer "cyanidin" chains (tannins). Any chain length from 2-7 or so is termed and "oligomer" and longer chains are generally just called "polymers." It is generally assumed that the longer the cyanidin chain length, the less bioavailable and less active the molecule becomes. It may even be possible for the longer chain length compounds (tannins) to interfere with the absorption of other nutrients consumed at the same time. Many commercial grape seed extracts are standardized to a total OPC content, which may or may not take into account the assortment of dimers/trimers, etc. present in the final product.
Its benefits include:
Antioxidant
Cardioprotection (reduces risk of athersclerosis)
Reduces cancer risk
Improves vascular strength (stronger blood vessels)
Reduces edema (inflammation/swelling)
Promotes eye health (reduces risk of macular degeneration and cataracts)
OPCs also act as natural anti-histamines, block inflammation and boost the immune system. They also reportedly affect the metabolic enzymes that regulate neurotransmitters, and they appear to inhibit the breakdown of norepinephrine and dopamine. Some recent studies have shown that ADD is associated with a faster than average reuptake (breakdown) of dopamine, so perhaps this is the most important factor in how OPCs help.
Potential anti-disease effects Human case reports and results from laboratory and animal studies show that grape seed extract may be useful to treat heart diseases such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol. By limiting lipid oxidation, phenolics in grape seeds may reduce risk of heart disease, such as by inhibiting platelet aggregation and reducing inflammation. While such studies are promising, more research including long-term studies in humans is needed to confirm initial findings.
A polyphenol contained in grape seeds is resveratrol which may interfere with cancer cell growth and proliferation, as well as induce apoptosis, among a variety of potential chemopreventive effects.
